More to Life

It is easy for people to become so wrapped up in their “problems” in life that they tend to forget about the bigger picture of life. When we are focused on ourselves, we forget the reason we are here on this earth; we forget that we are here to serve, honor, and glorify God. The other day I was wrestling with and worrying about something I was working through; I was so self-focused that I could not see how the circumstance would ever be resolved or concluded. The reason why I was worrying was because I did not see how I was going to fix it. Recognizing subconsciously that this mindset was erroneous, I grabbed my Bible and opened to the Psalms. I cannot remember what chapter I read, but I do know that it helped me refocus my eyes on the Lord. God’s Word reminded me that God is bigger than all of my problems; the only thing that I should be concerned with is obeying and trusting Him. God will take care of all of the rest of the details!!

Psalms 103 is one of my favorite psalms. It is also a good one to read to remind oneself of God’s love, mercy, grace, care, and knowledge of His children. God “knows our frame” (vs. 14a) and “He remembers that we are dust” (vs. 14b); God remembers our frailty and is yet still patient and loving. With this knowledge, how can we worry about the small details in our lives? Why should we worry when we can rest in the fact that God loves us and will take care of us? We shouldn’t! God already too care of our “biggest problem” in life—saving us from eternal damnation. How much more, then, should He be able to take care of our “little problems”? We must keep in mind that there is more to life than the worries of today; there is a God who knows us and will care for us all the days of our lives. It is our responsibility to rest in Him and show our love in return.

Check out Psalm 103:
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
The Lord works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the people of Israel. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will He keep His anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does He remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to His children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.
As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and His righteousness to children's children, to those who keep His covenant and remember to do His commandments. The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, and His kingdom rules over all.
Bless the Lord, O you His angels, you mighty ones who do His word, obeying the voice of His word! Bless the Lord, all His hosts, His ministers, who do His will! Bless the Lord, all His works, in all places of His dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul!”
